Get Magic Journal on the App Store

If you may harm yourself or someone else, or if you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, call emergency services or contact a trusted in-person support immediately. Do not rely on this app for crisis support.

Agreement

These Terms govern your use of Magic Journal and related services. By using the app, you agree to these Terms.

Purpose of the App

Magic Journal is a personal journaling tool that can record entries, transcribe audio, sync data through iCloud when enabled, retrieve relevant prior journal context, generate reflection prompts or summaries using cloud AI services, and read text aloud using device or cloud speech services. The app is for personal reflection and organization only.

No Medical, Therapy, or Crisis Service

The app does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, therapy, crisis counseling, or emergency response. AI-generated content may be incomplete, inaccurate, delayed, or inappropriate for your situation. Always seek advice from qualified professionals for medical or mental health concerns.

Your Responsibilities

You agree not to:

Your Content and Permission to Process It

You keep ownership of the journal entries, audio, transcripts, summaries, and other content you create. You grant us permission to process that content as needed to provide, secure, maintain, debug, and improve the app and related services, including by sending relevant content to transcription, AI, embedding, iCloud, and text-to-speech providers when you use those features.

The app asks for your permission before normal use of features that send journal text or audio to cloud providers. By tapping “I Accept” in the app, you permit Magic Journal to send the minimum needed journal text, audio, conversation context, generated context, and technical request metadata through our relay to providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Cartesia, Apple, and infrastructure providers for the purposes described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

AI, Transcription, Embeddings, and Read-Aloud

Cloud features depend on third-party providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Cartesia, Apple, and infrastructure providers. Provider output may be wrong, incomplete, unavailable, delayed, or unexpectedly formatted. You are responsible for deciding how to use any output.

Transcription sends audio needed to create text. AI replies, summaries, and titles send current conversation text, relevant prior journal text, editable prompt documents, and settings needed for routing. Embeddings send text snippets for memory search. Cloud read-aloud sends the text selected for speech generation. We do not add your name, email, Apple ID, contacts, or precise location to those provider requests.

We may limit, change, suspend, or disable AI, transcription, embedding, sync, or speech features at any time to protect users, the service, or third-party providers.

Local Data, Sync, and Deletion

The app stores journal data locally and may store temporary audio chunks locally to protect against failed transcription. If iCloud sync is enabled, data may be copied to your private iCloud account and merged across devices. Turning off sync, deleting local data, or deleting the app may not automatically remove copies from every synced device or from iCloud unless the app or Apple settings provide that deletion option and it completes successfully.

You are responsible for your device security, lock screen, backups, iCloud account, and any export or sharing choices you make.

Availability and Data Loss

We try to make the app reliable, but no journaling, sync, transcription, AI, or speech system is perfect. Features can fail because of device state, permissions, network problems, provider outages, iCloud availability, bugs, or rate limits. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.

We may update, interrupt, suspend, or discontinue any part of the app or service at any time.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how the app and relay process journal text, audio, transcripts, embeddings, install IDs, technical logs, iCloud sync data, and provider requests. By using the app, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.

Disclaimers

The app and service are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, personal injury, emotional distress, or reliance on AI output arising from use of the app or service.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
